Five prominent representatives of the Chilean film industry are preparing for the prestigious edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, backed by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.
In this note, we invite you to read about their impressive careers, their promising projects by the hand of directors such as: Sergio Castro, Matías Rojas, Nicolás Molina, Juan Olea and Nicole Bonilla as well as the exciting opportunities they will look for in the market during this new edition of San Sebastián
Member of the film academy since 2020 Sergio is a filmmaker and photographer. He has worked in the fiction, television and documentary genres. His career has had great successes and productions such as La Mujer de barro, premiered at the Berlin International Festival (Berlinale 65) and selected in important competitions such as Toulouse, San Sebastian and London. In addition to documentaries such as El negro (award for the best film Doc MX) and El frío Misterio winner of Inedit. He is creator and co-director of the series for Amazon Prime, La Jauría, and co-director of the first Chilean series for Disney + Llévame al Cielo, to premiere in 2024.
Arrives in San Sebastián with A Thousand Pieces, a road movie in development co-produced by Chile, Argentina and Germany that will be participating in the Europe Latin America Co-production Forum looking for funding
We are very happy that “A Thousand Pieces”, a film that will be shot completely in the IV region of Chile, will be present at this very competitive instance. With my previous film “La mujer de barro” I was able to participate in Cine en Construcción (called today Wip Latam) and we worked on putting focus and leading the film towards international instances. What we are looking for in the Forum is a funding gap and pre-sale that will allow us to arrive more comfortably to the shooting scheduled for the beginning of 2024.
His career has been marked by great productions such as El Vals de los Inútiles and Máquina Voladora, in addition to projects in development such as Visión nocturna by Carolina Moscoso (FidMarseille 2020) Aullido de invierno by Matías Rojas Valencia and Ecos, adaptation of the homonymous novel by the national writer Alex Saldías (Roberto Bolaños Award 2015), among others.
In this edition of San Sebastian he participates with Patas de perro by Matías Rojas. A fictional drama that is in development and will be on the market in search of international co-producers.
It is my first participation in San Sebastian and my expectations are high. I have a very interesting network of international contacts, a diversity that fits very well with the portfolio of A Simple Vista, endowed with projects of different nature to generate interest with the industry. We go with a special emphasis on our main project in development “Patas de Perro”, where San Sebastián is an ideal instance to generate interest, pre-agreements, and follow-up with different actors of the industry.
Content Director and Executive Producer at Funky Films, she has participated as an executive producer in the films Tengo Miedo Torero and Dry Martina, among others. She also has a portfolio of high quality content and artistic value, including: Pirópolis (Winner of WIP Visions du Réel), A La Sombra de la Luz (World Premiere Sheffield Doc Fest 2023) El Fantasma (co-production between Chile, Argentina and Brazil) and Surfing For Seniors (Documentary in Development).
After passing through Venice, she continues the journey to San Sebastián with Pirópolis by Nicolás Molina, a non-fiction located in Valparaíso, which is currently in post-production and will seek sales agents
San Sebastián is the most important festival and industry for content in Spanish, which is fundamental for the distribution and marketing of the films in our portfolio: “El Fantasma” by Martin Duplaquet that has the support of a Spanish sales agency and “Pirópolis” by Nicolás Molina that was part of Ikusmira Berriak. Finally, we are developing the documentary “Surfing For Seniors”, a co-production with Spain that includes Spanish characters and seeks to consolidate its presence in this territory.
Director, screenwriter, producer and co-founder of Juntos Films. His filmography includes Las Analfabetas and Gran Avenida from the direction role, and has been film producer for El Otro by Francisco Bermejo (Burning Lights award in Vision du Reel) and Immersion by Nicolás Postiglione that have been selected in festivals such as the Critics’ Week in Venice, Miami, France and Huelva, among others. He is currently preparing to shoot his third film as a director, entitled Que Se Acabe Todo.
He arrives in San Sebastian with La hija del pacífico directed by Juan Olea, a fictional Coming of Age set in the mythical Atacama Desert. Currently in post-production and will be looking for sales agents
At Juntos Films we make films to entertain, excite and generate reflection. In that order. We consider the San Sebastian Festival Market as one of the most relevant windows to find allies who share this vision of cinema. And in our language.
Executive producer. Between 2015 and 2019 she was coordinator of the International Programs of the Audiovisual Promotion Fund and the Chile Film Friendly Program of Film Commission Chile, of the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile.
In 2019 she founded La Madre, producing the feature films Hola Ulises, I’m Paulina by Paulina Soto, La mujer de mi abuela by Libertad S. Galli Lillo, and co-producer of Travesía Travesti (2021) by Nicolás Videla. This edition comes with El Encuentro by Nicolás Acuña. A fictional drama, which is currently under development and will be on the market in search of co-production.
The portfolio of La Madre includes projects in different stages of production, all with a high social component and addressed with a gender perspective. Women’s issues and sexual dissidence that put universal conflicts on the table that we hope can draw the attention of strategic agents present at the Festival. We seek to strengthen ties with programmers and sales agents to disseminate and distribute our upcoming film “Hola Ulises, soy Paulina” in the European territory, and possible co-producers for projects in development.
