Chilean audiovisual says farewell to a great friend of Chilean culture
Noted for being a key journalist in opposition to the military regime, he worked as editor of the magazine Solidaridad (1976) to later join the news team Teleanálisis, where he worked as general editor (1984-1986) and as director (1986-1989). With the return to democracy (1990) Augusto joins TVN and begins to make cultural programs for the channel, then assumes as executive producer of culture. His success and great work in about 10 cultural programs such as Frutos del país and Hora 25 (2006-2010) among others, led him in 2016 to join as a member of the board of TVN.
His audiovisual experience stood out from the direction with documentaries such as Las armas de la paz, among others, and from the production in La recta provincia by Raúl Ruiz. In addition to this great trajectory, Maite Alberdi’s recent documentary, The Eternal memory (Sundance, and Berlin 2023), in which Augusto is the protagonist, is added. An intimate portrait of his life with Paulina Urrutia, his eternal love that accompanied him during the great fight against Alzheimer’s.
This month we honor Augusto Góngora, journalist, filmmaker and Chilean cultural manager who left a great legacy for the country’s culture and Chilean audiovisual.
