What a joy! Chile is invited for the first time to IAFFM, the successful Miami Film festival that enhances the artistic level of filmmakers and their Ibero-American works.
The national arrival seeks to be one of the entry gates to the North American market with a large presence that extends from the official selection with Breaking and Entering, by Tomas Gonzalez, to the short film competition with successful productions such as Desert Lights directed by Katherine Harder, Deshabitada (Camila Donoso) and Teo directed by Eduardo Bunster and Belén Abarza, while Chilean works such as Maria Black Eyes, by Benjamin Brunet will open the first edition of the festival’s Work in Progress.
To this great presence is added, the participation of Gabriela Sandoval (President APCT) as a jury in the official competition and the work in field by CinemaChile, the Chilean audiovisual industry brand, which was invited for the first time by the festival, to start conversations and promote future co-productions in the North American market.

After premiering his short film Newentün in 2017, Tomás Gonzalez arrives in IAFFM with his debut film Breaking and Entering, which will have its world premiere on January 28 at the Ibero-American Film Festival in Miami.
The feature film produced by Camila Rodó and Pira Films, mixes fiction with police thriller to tell a story inspired by real events. In 80” minutes, the audience will be able to immerse themselves in the story of Matos, a detective who asks Commissioner Novoa for help to enter the prosecutor’s office and get rid of some recordings that accuse them of drug trafficking, torture and corruption.
The film was part of Goes to Cannes represented by Sanfic and also part of our international film catalogue published in the same festival during 2022

Desert Lights (Katherina Harder) , Deshabitada (Camila Donoso) and Teo ( Eduardo Bunster and Belén Abarza) will be the short films that will represent Chile in Miami, a unique film experience for the audience where 15 short films from around the world will have their screenings at the Silverspot Miami Theater.
The successful short film by Katherina Harder, which received 17 international awards during 2022, arrives in Miami to continue showing the impact of regional productions born in Chile. A story filmed in the town of Pachica, in Tarapacá, which portrays the water crisis in Chile, through an integral piece that tells the story of Antay, a 12-year-old boy who sees his people disappear as a result of the drought that affects the area.
Chilean animation is also present with Deshabitada, an experimental stop-motion short film directed by Camila Donoso Astudillo and produced by Amanda Puga (Praxia Producciones) that travels through the emotional scenarios of a woman in the last moments of her life. World premiered at the Guadalajara Film Festival and part of the Rotterdam Short & Mid-Length Program during 2022, Donoso’s short film mixes animation with visual arts to create an original, dark and magnetic work.

The competition also includes Teo, produced and directed by Eduardo Bunster and Belén Abarza. An 18” minute fiction short film, which not only stands out for its surprising artistic commitment and animation, but also for the story and connection to the new digital era in which we are immersed.
The film stars Francisco Pérez-Bannen and Manuela Oyarzún, a couple who go to design their first child at a genetic clinic, in the hope that the child will achieve the successful and happy life that they have not been able to live.

Co-produced by Chile and Colombia, Maria Black Eyes by Benjamin Brunet will be present at IAFFM’s work in progress, a section that opens this year to showcase Ibero-American cinematographic works.
Led by the production companies La Casa Tortuga and Infractor Films, the fiction feature will present Maria, a charming and dominant woman who will try to keep her family together in the face of an imminent separation, while suffering the ravages of her addictions and a past that still haunts her.
The strong Chilean presence in the new and renewed version of IAFFM, also comes with essential faces and institutions of the Chilean audiovisual.
Gabriela Sandoval (APCT President) will be in charge of representing Chile and Argentina, being a jury of the official selection of the festival. Her participation stands out in the New Talent section, where First and Second Films from Latin American countries should propose an innovative and challenging cinema.

The closing of this large participation will be commanded by an industry activity organized between ProChile and CinemaChile, where important Chilean offices and institutions present in Miami as Prochile Oficom Miami, Chamber of Commerce of Chile in the US, Miami Consul in conjunction with Vice Consul, will be expanding networks and seeking strategies to be a key ally in upcoming co-productions with North America.
