We conclude this year on a high note! The Chilean audiovisual said farewell to 2022 with 219 awards both in international festivals and in industry meetings.
For twelve months we could see how the sector positioned itself strongly, holding a grand line of representatives and winners in 131 meeting events around the world.
Without a doubt this was a wonderful year for the sector that has dazzled the world with original productions and new formats that tell local stories capable of moving a global audience and specialized critics.

A total of 78 awards worldwide have received Chilean short films. Among them are Desert Lights (Katherina Harder) ; Beast (Hugo Covarrubias) The Bones (Joaquin Cociña and Cristóbal León); Bodies that fight (Catalina Ibañez); Hola (Catherine Mazoyer) ; Construction of Sound (Cristóbal Arteaga) and Captive (Yousuf Pirzada).
According to the statistics made by CinemaChile -institution created by APCT and ProChile- this number is an important sign and indicator of all the work done during the last period, which is also reflected in the consecutive nominations of the first two short films at the Oscars.
Multiple formats and new narratives are born every year in Chile. A total of 45 productions and projects in different stages of development and distribution involving formats such as video games, animation, road movie, historical reconstruction, gender perspective and inclusion, complete the sum of this major study.
These figures undoubtedly demonstrate the strength of the talents who are preparing to continue their international journey with works such as the award-winning documentary The Cordillera of Dreams (Patricio Guzmán); Private Messages (Matías Bize) and the film that was nominated by Chile for the Oscars, Blanquita (Fernando Guzzoni) as well as 9 projects that will begin to film and distribute during 2023.
Gender perspectives also hit the international screen. In 2022 we were part of the dozens of directors, producers and even actresses who dazzled with their creations abroad.
New visions and themes began to triumph abroad, where 88 awards received last year, correspond to productions directed and produced by women, in the Director’s role there is Manuela Martelli, Claudia Huaiquimilla, Katherina Harder, Bernarda Ojeda, Tana Gilbert, Magdalena Hurtado, Milena Castro, Catherine Mazoyer, Catalina Ibañez, Francina Carbonell, Natalia Luque, Camila Donoso, Constanza Fernandez, María Fernanda Sessa , Lola Contreras, Kattia Zúñiga, Constanza Majluf, Laura Donoso, Andrea Nachon, Alejandra Jaramillo, Alba Gaviraghi and Francisca Peró, and from the Producer’s role Alexandra Galvis, Gabriela Sandoval, Catalina Vergara, Soledad Cáceres, Ignacia Merino, Isabel Reyes, Cecilia Otero, Camila Huerta, Isidora Thiele, Paulina Sanhueza, Francisca Barraza, María José Díaz, Paulina Ferretti and Margarita Egaña, as well as other awards for actresses such as Paulina García who received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Gramado Film Festival in Brazil.
For 12 months the important presence of co-productions has not gone unnoticed. Of the 219 awards received during 2022, 35 correspond to co-productions such as Immersion (Nicolás Postiglione); Piedra Noche (Iván Fund); Green Grass (Ignacio Ruiz); The Punishment (Matias Bize); A place called Dignity (Matias Rojas); Love me (Leonardo Brzezicki); Karnawal (Juan Pablo Félix) ; Alis (Clare Wiskopf and Nicolás VanHemelryck) who have excelled in both festivals and international markets, which as a result attracts more and more potential investors and producers who want to create content with Chilean professionals.
In addition to these names, there are 9 co-production projects such as Leon (co-production by Lucho Films) and Fantastic Sex Shop, (co-produced by José Navarro) that won awards during Ventana Sur, as well as La pampa (Errante Producciones) and La Quinta (Villano Producciones) ; The Turtles (Quijote Films) ; Winnipeg, el barco de la esperanza (El otro film producciones) ; Vacas (María una vez); La nieve entre los dos (Errante Producciones) and Las muertes pasajeras (Juntos films) 7 projects that were awarded through the Ibermedia program
