This year and for the first time, Ventana Sur will be the protagonist of the launch of the biennial CinemaChile TV catalogue, an initiative that represents the great harvest of Chilean television production.
This catalogue is a unique opportunity for Chilean productions to reach a global audience, as they will be promoted on international television circuits over the next 24 months.
CinemaChile, the entity in charge of promoting and strengthening the Chilean audiovisual industry abroad, has valued its presence at MIPCancun as a crucial event that this year will be the showcase for a 100% digital launch of 38 national productions.
This catalogue brings together 16 series that have been completed (42.11%) and 22 projects under development (57.89%), providing a unique showcase for Chilean stories and talent.
One of the good news within Ventana Sur is the presentation of this catalog, in one of the biggest markets of the year and of Latin America. For us as a Ministry, along with CinemaChile, it is essential to support the presence of Chileans abroad and especially in instances such as Ventana Sur.
Carolina Arredondo Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Chile
The CinemaChile 2023-2024 catalogue covers a wide range of genres, from fiction to non-fiction and animation.
One of the great milestones of this launch is that 50% of the finished series are directed by women, and among the projects under development, 7 of the 22 series at this stage have a female position in the director’s role.
This focus on gender diversity underscores Chile’s effort to represent a wide range of voices in its television production highlighting Chilean professionals such as Pepa San Martín, Vanesa Miller, María Elena Wood, Rosario Jiménez-Gili, Joy Penroz, Macarena Denisse and Klaudia Kemper in the finished series.
While in the series in development are positioned directors names such as: Tiare Pinto, Manuela Espineira, Javiera Norambuena, Josefina Cabezón, Carola Fuentes and Constanza Maldonado.
But that’s not all! The catalogue also promotes international collaboration with 6 co-productions, which represent 15.79% of the total and demonstrates the importance and continuity of alliances with countries such as Spain, Argentina, Canada, Colombia and Mexico.
During this year we have promoted instances that allow us to have more tools to co-produce our films and series, since our productions are developed in co-production, which is reflected in the catalog of series, both in projects in development and completed. We hope to continue advancing with the pending co-production agreements, such as those recently signed with Spain and Costa Rica.
Gabriela Sandoval President of the Association of Film and Television Producers
The design of this new edition houses 34 series presented as premieres or first seasons (89%), which underlines the strength of Chile with the creation of original content while only 4 are continuations or subsequent seasons (10.53%).
The CinemaChile catalogue at MIP Cancun is a window to Chile’s exceptional audiovisual talent and an opportunity for the international industry to discover new stories, genres, and voices
“Ventana Sur has become a strategic event for the Chilean audiovisual industry, and premiering the series catalog there allows us to connect -among others- with the Argentine market, which is relevant for the country because of its strong audiovisual industry and with whom we have strong cultural ties.”
Raúl Vilches, head of ProChile’s Creative Industries Department.
