QUICK LOOK EUROPEAN FILM MARKET 2024

Strong presence of the Chilean audiovisual industry to be expected at EFM, including seven talented national producers who are ready to take over Berlin, these producers are backed up by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile.

Their participation in the prestigious Berlin Film Festival and its industry area is particularly important as it marks the first opportunity of the year where the Chilean delegation presents all projects for this 2024.

CRISTIAN HIDALGO – NEURO FILMS

Partner and Executive Producer of Neurofilms. As a professional actor he has dedicated his life to radio, theater and film. He has participated in more than 2500 theater performances, developing his career both in Chile and in other Latin American countries. In the audiovisual area he stands out as a producer in several feature films, short films and TV series. Comes to EFM with El Plan de Miguel, a non-fiction directed by Pablo Stephens, which is currently in post-production and will be looking for distribution during the market.

NEUROFILMS hopes to finalize a distribution agreement on the European territory of the feature film “El Plan de Miguel” and a co-production agreement for the feature film “Por fin tus huellas” and for the series “Maestros del Sonido”.

Carlos Nuñez – Storyboard Media

Director and founder of the production and distribution company Storyboard Media and the film festival of Santiago, SANFIC. He was a jury member at the Berlin Film Festival 2017. He has produced films such as: “Santiago Italia” by Nanni Moretti (Torino FF 2018, David Di Donatello Award Best Documentary, Italy 2019); “Pacto de Fuga” by David Albala ( Fox/Disney Chile 2020. Shanghai FF 2020. Amazon Prime 2021) and “La Mujer de Barro” (Berlinale, Forum , 2015) among others.

He arrives at EFM with Jorge, a non-fiction biopic directed by Nicolás Pavie that is currently under development and will be looking for financing.

Florencia Rodríguez Araya – Oro Films

Producer and co-founder of Oro Films. To date, they have released the films “Matar a la bestia” (Dir. Agustina San Martín), co-production with Argentina and Brazil; “La anunciada muerte de Willy Semler” (Dir. Benjamín Rojo); and the short film “Helechos” (Dir. Paz Ramírez), also having post-production and development projects in co-production with countries such as Italy, France, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela. She has also worked as a line producer and executive producer in companies such as Quijote Films and Storyboard Media, forming part of projects of various characteristics from creation to distribution.

She arrives at the new edition of EFM with Todos los males by Nicolás Postiglione. A fictional drama that is in post-production and will be looking for sales agents.

“For us it is essential to participate in this market because it is the starting kick of the year, which allows us to test, on the one hand, where the industry is aiming for, and on the other, our strategies by projects. It is a market where many things are realized, and if so, projects can chart a super fruitful trajectory for the rest of the year”.

Clara Larraín – Clara Films

Chilean actress and producer based in Madrid, specialized in international co-productions. She has participated in Rotterdam Producers Lab 2021 and BA Talents 2022, the same year she was the international jury of the REC Tarragona festival. Among her production credits are the hybrid feature film “Aullido de Invierno” by Matías Rojas Valencia (Tallinn Black Nights in 2023), the short film “White is for Virgins” by Jacqueline Pepall, acquired by HBO Max in 2020, among other projects that are currently being filmed.

She landed EFM with Lo Que No Se Dijo by Ricardo Valenzuela, a fictional drama that is in post-production and will seek distributors

“I am very happy to be part of the CAIA delegation for EFM 2024 and start the audiovisual calendar. As a producer we are excited to present on the market the feature film in post production “Lo Que No Se Dijo” by Ricardo Valenzuela Pinilla, whose international sales rights have recently been acquired by the German agency Media Luna New Films”.

Patricio Ochoa – La merced a mar pictures

Representative and founder of La Merced Producciones, company with offices in Chile and Colombia. Currently one of the directors of the film and tv producers’ guild APCT of Chile and president of the Audiovisual Industry Foundation and founder of CreativeLaw.

He landed the Berlin market with El Encuentro, a fictional drama that is in development and looking for  co-production

Catalina Vergara – Globo Rojo Films

After being awarded, along with Cristián Soto, for the direction role of La última estación in the category of Best Documentary at the Guadalajara Film Festival and participate as a producer in award-winning productions such as Vendrá la muerte y tendrá tus ojos by José Luis Torres Leiva; The wolf house by León & Cociña and Sombra Vertical  by Felipe Elgueta, Ananké Pereira.

DIEGO PINO – MAFI

Chilean producer, filmmaker and deputy director of Chiledoc. Founder of the company CangrejoFilms focused mainly on film production and producer of the MAFI Foundation. His films have been selected in important international markets and festivals such as Berlinale, IDFA, Visions du Réel, DokLeipzig, Karlovy Vary Film Festival, BAFICI, among others.


Comes to this edition of EFM to advance various projects in MAFI portfolio

“For me this year EFM has a very important and special sense, as we have the world premiere of OASIS in the festival, and being able to participate in the market is key for the film to find new windows and international distribution opportunities. At the same time, the participation in the festival allows me as a producer to present other projects in other stages, seeking funding and new partners”.
