QUICK LOOK EFM 2023: MEET THE PRODUCTION COMPANIES AND THEIR PROJECTS HERE

We start our festival journey! This 2023 we return to the first onsite edition of the European Film Market (EFM) since the pandemic.

Chile returns to this great first annual event in the calendar of A Festivals, with an official delegation of 7 Chileans -supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage-  who will participate in the EFM of the Berlinale in search of alliances to achieve the development, completion and sales of their projects : Bernardo Quesney ; Rocio Huerta; Nicolás Acuña; Francisco Greene ; Benjamín Ávila y Manuela Martelli.

FRANCISCO GREENE – MESA REDONDA STUDIO

 

Author, screenwriter and executive producer. He specializes in the creation, development and production of audiovisual content for television and digital platforms. Some of his works as a screenwriter include the series Naufragios (2015) and Inmigrantes (2018) and others such as his graphic novel Pigafetta (2022), recently published in Spain and France.

During EFM he will be carrying The Language of Birds. A non-fiction project that is in development and will be in search of financing agents.

 

The return to Berlin aims to increase links and networks with international decision makers, giving us the possibility to continue marking presence in this market and present our production company, Mesa Redonda Studio, recently formed in La Araucanía in the south of Chile, specialized in generating original content, with a decentralizing look and international vocation

 

 

GABRIELA SANDOVAL – STORYBOARD MEDIA

 

Producer, cultural manager, programmer and distributor. Founder of SANFIC, Santiago International Film Festival, and director of SANFIC INDUSTRIA, training and promotion space. Executive Director of AMOR FESTIVAL LGBT+ held since 2016 in Santiago de Chile. Since 2015 she directs the distribution area of Storyboard Media and is currently President of APCT, the Association of film and television producers in Chile.

In this edition she lands in EFM with The Cardinal by Benjamín Ávila, a fiction that mixes drama and history. It is currently under development and will be in search of platforms.

 

The participation in EFM will be more than profitable for Storyboard Media. We are also promoting other films like “Perhaps it is true what they say about us” ; “El Porvenir de La Mirada” which already has the associated co-production of Sebastián Lelio and the opera prima by Patricia Correa “Otra Piel”. Our goal is to set up different meetings with potential partners, programmers, festivals and sales agents to meet and join the projects

 

 

 

GIANCARLO NASI – QUIJOTE FILMS

 

As a film producer he has specialized in international co-productions, working with 17 countries on more than 12 films that have been awarded internationally, through the Chilean production company Quijote Films, of which he directs the film area.

Likewise, he has participated as an advisor and panelist in some of the most outstanding festivals worldwide, such as Rotterdam Lab, Sundance CoLab, and South by Southwest.

In this edition of EFM comes to be part of the Company Matching Programme alongside production companies from Ukraine, Austria and Luxembourg.

It is an honor to be invited as part of the market’s Match-Me program. We were selected from only 4 companies worldwide thanks to our track record in international co-productions. Quijote has managed to produce films in collaboration with more than 17 countries, including many from Latin America but also Taiwan, Ukraine, Poland, USA, UK, among others. Our mission is to help break down borders in cinema.”

 

 

 

PABLO CALISTO – EQUECO

 

Film producer, founder of Equeco with the challenge of empowering young authors with fresh and daring points of view. His projects have been present in international market programs such as EAVE Puentes, Guadalajara, Locarno Industry Days; and awarded in Clermont Ferrand, Biarritz and Miami, in addition to working in the area of film distribution and festivals as producer of SANFIC Industria.

He arrives at the new edition of EFM with History and Geography by Bernardo Quesney, a fiction feature film with sparks of drama and comedy that is already finished and will be in the market in search of distribution.

EFM means a great opportunity for Equeco in order to continue the internationalization of our projects portfolio, which has films in all stages from development to distribution. We hope to return with great progress that will be reflected very soon

 

 

DANIELA RAVIOLA – JUNTOS FILMS

 

She has produced short films, television, documentary films, animated series and served as General Producer of the International Chilean Animation Festival, and MAI! Animation Market.  She was in charge of the general production of feature films such as Francisco Bermejo’s El Otro ;  La Taza Rota by Esteban Cabezas, among other projects and productions already completed.

Comes to EFM with Japanese Queen by Rocío Huerta, a fictional drama in development and will be on the market in search of co-production.

The display that offers a space like this, is unique and as such, our expectation is to make the most of it to get new contacts and close possible agreements that we already have started

 

 

 

 

ALEJANDRA GARCÍA – WOOD PRODUCCIONES

 

During her successful career she has participated in the production of films such as La Buena Vida (2008, Goya Award), Violeta Fue a los Cielos (Grand Jury Prize, Sundance International Festival 2012) and Spider (Official TIFF Selection, San Sebastián Festival and Goya Awards), all directed by Andres Wood. She recently produced The Cow who sang a song into the future directed by Francisca Alegría (Official Selection World Dramatic Competition Sundance Festival 2022) and 1976 directed by Manuela Martelli (Quinzaine des Réalisateurs Festival de Cannes 2022).

She is currently working with Manuela Martelli on The Meltdown, a fictional thriller under development and will be at EFM in search of co-production.

 

EFM is a vital market for our projects because of the direct link with Europe. Being part of it is a great opportunity to make substantial progress for each of the goals in order to achieve them successfully

 

 

 

PATRICIO OCHOA – MAR PICTURES

 

Representative and founder of La Merced Producciones, company with presence in Chile and Colombia. Currently one of the directors of the film and tv producers’ guild APCT of Chile and president of the Audiovisual Industry Foundation and founder of CreativeLaw.

He is currently working as a producer on The Meeting by Nicolás Acuña, a biographical fiction that is in development and will be in search of co-production.

It is my second time at the EFM. I feel the good energy of all those who will participate, now in a face-to-face manner. I have great expectations, as it says the same EFM is where everything (It all starts here) the first market of the year and at least for me the previous one I went was successful
