Chile arriving in Cannes will be spectacular given by the return to the face-to-face approach that we have been waiting for. With 4 selected films, Chile is the Latin American country with the biggest presence in the different sections of the Festival.
The participation in the market will also be huge. A delegation of more than 20 producers will attend the market- including 6 CAIA delegates, supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage- who will chart the future of national cinema.
After three years, CinemaChile will be back with an onsite booth at the Palais des Festival venue and will manage a busy agenda of meetings with leading members of the international industry. We will also launch our New Chilean Film Catalogue for the 12th consecutive year.
Thus, 115 Chilean films -which are looking for international premiere during the current year- will be made known throughout the world: local offers, located in unique places and with a particular point of view of the contemporary world.
The CinemaChile Meetings, the Showcase of Chilean documentaries in the Doc Corner by Chiledoc; the screening of national short films in the Shortfilm Corner -organized by ChileShorts- and the festival of Sanfic as a guest for the tenth edition of the program Goes to Cannes, are some of the industry activities that Chile is preparing.
Our presskit will be the perfect guide in which you will be able to know in detail all our participation and activities during the Marché du Film
The novelties of the Chilean presence at the Marché du Film are irresistible, and this article summarizes everything you need to know.
As we have already told you, the participation of Chile in Cannes back to face-to-face fashion will be overwhelming. A total of 28 national production companies will seek to establish co-production, distribution, financing and sales alliances for an incredible number of projects in development.
In addition, ProChile’s General Director, Paulina Valderrama, highlighted the international recognition achieved by the Chilean audiovisual industry, especially in a key market such as France
“This assessment is due to a consistent and sustained public-private work, which translates into our participation in Marché du Film, as well as in the different priority circuits of the audiovisual sector”, says Paulina Valderrama, ProChile’s General Director.
Rocío Jadue (Fabula); Giancarlo Nasi (Quijote Films); Carlos Núñez (Storyboard Media); Omar Zeballos (Voladores Films); Clara Larraín Zegers (Clara Films) and Florencia Rodríguez (Oro Films) are the 6 delegates supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage. In their portfolios, they will carry a rich mosaic of projects by different directors such as Fernando Guzzoni, Nicolás Postiglione, Jacqueline Pepall, Marcelo Ferrari, Diego Céspedes and Sophie Chevalier-Z.
“This year “the great Chilean representation in Cannes is cause for celebration and we are sure that the presence in the different sections of the event will speak as always for the quality of the cinematographic and audiovisual work in the highest position”, says Andrea Gutiérrez, Undersecretary of Cultures and Arts.
They include also the renowned Ignacio Agüero (Agüero & Asociados Ltda); Marcela Santibáñez (Fantasma); Catalina Vergara (Globo Rojo Films); Rodrigo Díaz (Parina Films); Alejandra García (Wood Producciones) and Bruno Bettati (Jirafa) such as some of the producers and filmmakers who will look to form alliances to continue development and thus finalize their projects.
For the first time since 2019, CinemaChile, the sectoral brand created by ProChile and APCT, has once again an onsite stand at the Marché du Film, the world’s most important market and meeting event for the entire international industry
Constanza Arena (executive director), Carolina Gallo (international producer) and Josefina Parga (international relations) are CinemaChile’s field team and will carry out a robust agenda of meetings with programmers, distributors, sales agents, international producers and delegations.
“There is no lack of excitement and buzz in this return to Cannes. We think it is not exaggerated to say that it is and will be historic. In the field of market and industry, the return to the face-to-face form reactivates the powerful business agenda that Chilean cinema had had until the pandemic“, says the executive director Constanza Arena.
To expand producers’ networks and present them with opportunities to finance their projects, CinemaChile organizes CinemaChile Meetings, an activity that brings together the national delegation with international counterparts. This year, they will be carried out with Catalan Films, Cinema do Brasil, and the ICAA.
On May 18 we will launch the New International Catalogue of Chilean Films, which contains 115 productions –considering 32 fiction films, 26 documentary films; 36 fiction short films, 20 documentary and 1 animation-. From that same day, you can find it also on our website.
“It is an honor to represent all the cinematographic landscape of our country through the International Catalogue of Chilean Films, which as every year we launch in Cannes and is the tool of work with directors and programmers of festivals from all corners of the planet, international sales agents and distributors,” concludes Arena.

For four months, it will be part of the script writing programme and will participate in various forums with film industry professionals. During the Marché du Film, the team will have the opportunity to pitch the film to industry agents potentially interested in it.
The support program for the promotion of short films, ShortFilm Corner, brings together more than 12 Chilean productions, who will participate in different instances:
Erratic Blocks, Thomas Woodroffe’s debut feature, will be part of Focus Co Pro, a space that seeks to highlight new talents, helping them find the opportunities they need to finish their projects.
ChileShorts will organize a showcase that will show 7 national short films, with the goal of obtaining guidance on distribution and festivals. Among these, are Vertical Shadow by Ananke Pereira & Felipe Elgueta (Visions du Réel,2022); Corrupted by Juan Cifuentes Mera (Hot Docs, 2022); Algo así como la noche by Alván Prado (Nest, Festival de San Sebastián 2021); Pablo Cuturrufo’s El toque fantasma; La Mecha by Nicholas Hooper H.; Mañana/Pasado by Alejandra Andino and Aparecides by Yvan Iturriaga.

To close this large delegation in the French market, the SANFIC festival will again be present at the tenth edition of Goes to Cannes, a section that selects five renowned festivals and international film markets, associated with the Marché du film, to be part of the industry program:
The programme will be run by 24 selections from around the world chosen by the 4 festivals that will participate in the section. Chilean feature films include projects by Bernardo Quesney; Tomás Gonzalez Matos; Andrew Sala and Esteban García, who are still in the post-production stage and are looking for a sales agent, a distributor or a festival selection.
