MIPCOM and MIPJUNIOR 2023: Chile arrives with 9 world-class series

We continue our journey through Europe, this time with 9 projects that will participate in the 39th edition of MIPCOM and MIPJUNIOR.

Cannes, the city of the French Riviera known for its glamour and beauty, is preparing to welcome the promising Chilean production companies in the most outstanding series events of the year: MIPCOM and MIPJUNIOR, where the figures speak for themselves and in 2022 alone 10,800 delegates, 3,100 buyers and 108 countries attended.

In this edition, Chile stands out as a protagonist by attending with 8 production companies that bring projects that promise to leave an indelible mark on the international market, in addition to the selection of Señorita 89 (Fabula) in the Content Innovation Awards.

Among the 8 producing companies are also the five Chilean delegates who will attend the market supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage.

MIPCOM: The global epicenter of television  

MIPCOM is the global epicenter of television professionals. This event is the perfect showcase for Chilean production companies to display their talent and seek strategic partners for their productions.

Chile arrives at MIPCOM with a contingent of five delegates supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage (four of them present at MIPCOM and one at MIPJUNIOR), a demonstration of the Chilean government’s commitment to the audiovisual industry. These delegates are willing to present projects that stand out for their originality and quality. Get to know them here!

  • Escala Humana (Sebastián Brahm) brings  Golpe S01  that tells of the kidnapping of a commander-in-chief, a fictional series in development, which is in search of co-production. The head of the CIA in Chile instigates the kidnapping of the army leader to trigger a coup because Washington is obsessed with blocking Allende and saving the hemisphere from communism.
  • Juntos Films (Daniela Raviola) present Culpable, a developing fiction thriller that will seek co-production. Miguel (35), a lawyer from northern Chile, finds an unexpected niche of business, very profitable but excessively risky: finding people who plead guilty to the crimes of others.
  • La Ventana Cine (Carola Fuentes) will come to market with Antarctica: Searching for Adaptation, a non-fiction series that is in development and will be looking for co-producers. Under the Antarctic ice, a group of scientists discover hope in the midst of the catastrophe caused by climate change.
  • After making its way through San Sebastián and Iberseries & Platino Industria Parox (Sergio Gándara) with the finished series Los mil días de Allende, they come to MIPCOM in search of platforms. The story of the last years of life of Salvador Allende, a political leader who did not give up on his commitment to dignify the life of his people, but lost his life in the attempt.

MIPJUNIOR: Discovering the best of kid’s television

On the other hand, MIPJUNIOR is the perfect destination for producers and distributors looking to stand out in the world of children’s programming. At this event, buyers have the opportunity to discover the latest trends and projects before sealing their agreements at MIPCOM.

Chile does not lag behind in this category and arrives at MIPJUNIOR with 4 innovative and creative proposals that promise to conquer the hearts of younger viewers.

  • The production company Pájaro represented by delegate CAIA Cristián Freire lands with Tally Molly an animation adventure, which is currently in pre-production stage and is directed by Bernardita Ojeda, where a curious girl has the extraordinary ability to become as small as a bacteria or as big as a mountain. Explore the surrounding nature, rediscovering daily life.
  • 17Films, the production company represented by Karina Jury, arrives at MIPJUNIOR for the first time in partnership with PlayMaker, to present to the platforms its innovative content of Hola Flinko, co-produced with Señal Colombia, a transmedia for kids and Microterricolas directed by Philip Athens that is in state of distribution and that will also look for platforms. Both projects were financed by CNTV (National Television Council of Chile).
  • Meanwhile the production company Dinogorila, will have the screening of Locos Lab in MIPJUNIOR. A series of animation and adventure co-produced with Señal Colombia & CNTV that is in distribution and will be in search of platforms.

Chile making its way in the entertainment industry

Chile’s participation in MIPCOM and MIPJUNIOR is a testament to the steady growth of the entertainment industry in the country. Chile is positioning itself as an emerging actor in the production of high-quality series that can compete on a global scale.

To close this participation Señorita 89 by Fabula (Larraín) will compete for the Content Innovation Awards. The production is a thriller series of 8 episodes, set in the Mexican glamour of the 80s through beauty contests and follows Concepción (Ilse Salas), the matriarch of the most important beauty contest in the country, who, together with a team of expert makeup artists, trainers and even surgeons, receives in her farm ‘La Encantada’ the 32 finalists.
