Chilean cinema takes on the 37th edition of the Guadalajara Film Festival: with 3 feature films participating in the Official Competition, 1 feature film in the parallel section Inclusive Cinema and 6 projects selected in the market, here is demonstrated once again the quality and originality of the local cinematographic landscape.
At the same time, a delegation of more than 10 Chileans will attend the market-including 5 CAIA delegates, backed by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage with the goal of reaching agreements and alliances that will enable them to complete their promising projects.
In addition, 6 Chilean professionals will be part of the international jury and CinemaChile -a sectoral brand created by Apct and ProChile- comes back in full face-to-face fashion with an onsite stand in which it will carry out a busy agenda of meetings.

The cow who sang a song into the future by Francisca Alegría, will be participating for one of the 6 awards that this selection grants, a unique film experience for the attendees, where 10 feature films from all over the world will have their Mexican premiere during the FICG 37.
Francisca Alegria’s debut feature film has been well received by global audiences and has participated in various meetings and festivals during the last time, where it stands out its selection at the Sundance Film Festival and its passage through the prestigious MOMA in New York.
With a first-class cast, composed of three consolidated Chilean actors: Alfredo Castro, Leonor Varela, Enzo Ferrada and Argentina’s Mia Maestro, the film tells the story of Cecilia who, after traveling with her children to her father’s farm, must face the pain of her mother’s suicide and the mysterious circumstances surrounding her family’s lands.
It is produced by Alejandra García from Wood Producciones (Chile) and Cinéma Defacto (France), and sold and distributed by Match Factory (Germany).
Felipe Zúñiga’s La Picada and Alis, co-produced by Chile (PantallaCines); Colombia (Casa Tarántulas); Denmark (Burma VJ) and Romania (DeFilme), are the two Chilean feature films that will participate in this event, where they will be eligible for one of the three prizes awarded in this category.

Undoubtedly, this co-production, by Chilean producer Alexandra Galvis, has given something to talk about in recent times, after having won two major international recognitions during the Berlinale: Crystal Bear for Best Feature Film in Generation 14+ and the Teddy Award for Best LGBT+ Documentary.
In this non-competitive category, part of the official selection of the Festival you will find different films adapted and aimed at people with disabilities.
Among them is the Chilean fiction feature film The Announced Death of Willy Semler. Directed by Benjamín Rojo, it tells in a humorous way the life of Willy Semler (60), a renowned Chilean actor in decline, who is going through a bad time.
“The work that we develop for the Chilean Creative and Cultural Industries, is a contribution to diversification and the addition of value and quality of our exportable offer, this undoubtedly becomes a priority focus for ProChile”, says ProChile International Director, Lorena Sánchez.
4 projects in post-production and development stages will be representing Chile in this industry space that seeks to highlight new talents, helping them find the opportunities they need to finish their projects.
In addition, in the Unreal Engine Real-time Shortfilm Challenge section, a skills development initiative for the regions of the Americas, Spain and Portugal that allows content creators to explore animation in real time by creating animated shorts using the Unreal Engine software, will participate 2 short films:

A total of 12 national production companies will seek to establish co-production, distribution, financing and sales alliances for an incredible number of projects in development that will be present at the meeting event.

5 Chilean producers are the delegates supported by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Heritage. In their portfolios, they will carry a mosaic of projects by different directors such as Matias Rojas; Catalina González; Alexis Donoso; Fernando Lavandero and Sandra Arriagada.
As part of the national delegation there will also be: Juan López Ballo (Ballover Films); Cristián Hidalgo (Neurofilms); Juan Fernández (Fabula ); Matias Cisternas (Matías Cisternas); Paloma Sánchez and Rodrigo Avilés (La Positiva) and Valentina Opazo Cammás & Yeimy Navarro (Distópica ) who, along with 6 other colleagues from different production companies, will seek to form alliances to continue development and thus finalize their projects.
Chile has its space in the Market Screening of Ficg 37. Industry accredited professionals will be able to access during the festival and Mexican market exclusive screenings of Violeta Existe by Rodrigo Avilés, a documentary that delves into the life of the famous Chilean singer-songwriter Violeta Parra, told from the eyes of Angel and Javiera Parra Orrego, and is looking for a sales agent.
