October 18, 2024

Santiago, October 2024 – Five renowned Chilean production companies will participate in the prestigious MIPCOM and MIPJR 2024 markets, which will be held in France.

With funding from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage and strategic support from Pro-Chile, these companies will present innovative projects, including non-fiction, though the spotlight is on four animated proposals. The objective is clear: for our production companies to make inroads into the international market by building networks that will allow Chilean content to reach a global audience. MIPCOM and MIPJR are unique platforms for showcasing our creativity and making connections with key partners who value and support the creation of fresh, relevant content.

MIPCOM and MIPJR are recognized as key platforms for driving the growth of audiovisual projects at various stages of development. For Chilean production companies, these events provide a chance to showcase their work in the competitive global market, opening doors to new audiences, co-productions, and international funding.

Carolina Arredondo, Minister of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, emphasizes that “Chile’s participation in these international markets is essential to boosting the global projection of our creative industry. As the Ministry of Cultures, we remain committed to supporting production companies so they can attend these events, as they spotlight themes that are not only about entertainment but also create a significant cultural and social impact, contributing to our identity and strengthening the national presence on the world audiovisual stage.”

Four Animated Projects Representing Chile
Known for their quality and originality in animation, the Chilean projects cover a wide range of styles and themes, from fantasy to educational content, with stories that not only entertain but also raise awareness about cultural and environmental issues.

La Fabulosa will present “Uky y Lola, en Tierra del Fuego / Uky and Lola, in the Land of Fire“. This feature film, currently in pre-production, centers on two young Selk’nam, Uky and Lola, who fight against their people’s oppressors using ancestral powers. Directed by Fabián Andrade, the story aims to preserve the cultural heritage of the Selk’nam people through fantasy and is currently seeking funding to complete its development.

Another production company participating in MIPCOM is Morrón Estudio, with “Vamos Mandy! /  Let’s go Mandy!“—a comedy where Mandy, a restless girl, is encouraged by her grandfather to explore the world and live out the adventures she’s always dreamed of. The series is in the distribution phase, aiming to secure deals with international distributors to expand its global audience.

In the educational animation space, Dinogorila Creative Lab arrives with “Hola Flinko / Hi Flinko“, a series in production that follows Flinko, a curious platypus, on his travels through the Americas, where he encounters endangered animals. The project aims to raise awareness among children about biodiversity conservation and is seeking co-production partners to scale its international impact.

Lastly, Despiertoc Films will present “Los Imaginarios / The Imaginaries“, an animated feature combining drama, fantasy, and adventure. The story follows three friends who must restore the connection between the human world and that of fantastic beings, disrupted by ecological imbalance. The project is in pre-production and seeking co-production to move toward realization.

A Thought-Provoking Non-Fiction Project
In addition to the animated projects, Chile will also be represented in the non-fiction genre through the production company Nacrovia and its film “Ventanas / Windows“. This drama, tinged with comedy, addresses the paradoxical situation of a town devastated by industrial pollution that is proclaimed the capital of sustainable sports tourism. Directed by Martín Seeger, the film is in development and seeking funding to advance its proposal, offering a sharp reflection on the contradictions of sustainable development in today’s context.

The Growing Chilean Audiovisual Industry
Chile’s presence at MIPCOM and MIPJR reflects the growth and consolidation of this sector within the national audiovisual industry, with projects standing out for their technical quality, innovative narratives, and capacity for social and cultural impact. The goal of the attending production companies is not only to position their works in the international market but also to establish partnerships that will allow them to continue growing and developing quality content.
